Random Thursday Thoughts

I just ordered groceries online for the first time ever. This could actually be an amazing thing. If it goes well and they don't eff up my order (I requested "no substitutions" so as to limit the chance of effing it up), I might never leave my house again to go to the store.

We all know how I feel about people in general and if I don't have to leave home and participate in small talk with a checkout clerk things might be right in the world again.

So why am I finally hopping on the ClickList bandwagon? Because I'm really effing busy this week. Like I have Post-It notes for my Post-It notes. My desk looks like a tornado tore through the home office (and I'm fighting some wicked brain fog - I almost typed threw instead of through).

Basically I don't have time to shop for groceries. I can't go tonight because Kevin is at basketball practice with the kids and me going to the store without adult supervision after a long week is not a good idea. I don't have time to go tomorrow because my to-do list is birthing another to-do list.

It ain't pretty folks.
This week is kicking my ass.

I am trying to stay focused - which is why I have notes upon to-do lists upon bullet journal pages. I make lists for my lists.

Yesterday I sat down at my computer at 11:15 a.m. and didn't move until 3 p.m. No bathroom breaks, no snacks, nothing. Today was very similar.

I've been fighting brain fog and pain all week which just adds to the list making. I need to write everything down or I forget. For reals.

However, I am finding that making a "what's for dinner" page and a grocery list page in my BuJo (bullet journal people...keep up) has helped this week. Like I'll be sitting here and I'll think "oh! that sounds good for dinner" and I write down what I need.

And so...that is my week in a nutshell. There might not be enough Post-It notes to get me to the weekend.

The only thing that could make the whole grocery shopping from home thing better? If they gave out Venti Vanilla Lattes from Starbucks when you pick up the groceries.

A girl can dream.

So over it

The weather today is h.o.t. HOT.

Temperature at 2 p.m. - 87 degrees. Heat index is 92. And it's humid. My least favorite type of weather. If I wanted to live where it was this HOT, I'd move to Florida.

The weather today has left me with this realization - I am over summer.

Totally and completely over it. Done. Finished.

I'm ready for fall to be here. I'm ready for apples, pumpkins, Halloween decorations and sweaters.

I'm over heat and humidity and sunscreen and summer clothes.

September 22nd is the first day of fall. I cannot wait.

[And yes, please remind me of this in February when I'm droning on about how tired I am of winter and snow storms and ice.]

This whole "I'm over summer" frame of mind has led to me think of other things that have worn out their welcome:

- ANY "news" story about Michael Jackson. Or his kids. Or who might be the father of those kids. This is NOT news, dear editors of the world. Please report on something that IS news.

- The Gosselins. All 10 of them. Yes, I included the eight adorable kids. Why? Because at least one parental unit must be with them at all times and they both annoy me to no end, and therefore I don't want to see anything about any Gosselin.

- Unemployment. Yep, I'm over this too. I am tired of filing my weekly claim. I'm tired of the complete lack of worthy jobs. I'm just tired of not working. This will not change until I find a job.

- Gray hair. Oh my goodness....my hair is going gray so fast and I can't figure out why that is. I guess it could be all the negative vibes that I give out (HA!) or it could be because I'm an overly-stressed Type-A personality or...it could just be because I AM GETTING OLD. Yeah, I'm sure that's what it is. [A friend said today "38 is the new 37." I wonder what that makes 37? The new 36?]

I'm easy to please.

All I want is cooler temps, less gray hair, relevant news stories and a job.

Is that too much to ask?

So random

Today is one of those "gosh, I have all these random thoughts running through my head" kind of day...and so, I thought I'd blog about them. Why? Because I want to.

- Olivia starts KINDERGARTEN in 33 days. Seriously? How in the heck did this happen? How did my BABY suddenly get to be 5 1/2 years old and be on her way to 'real' school? Oh boy. I just KNOW that I'm going to cry on August 31st.

- The guy on the SlapChop commercial scares me. A lot. And really, what is with that ear piece/microphone thing? Who does he think he is, Britney Spears? SCARY.

- I've been without a job for a month now. And yes, it still sucks. Granted, it has been GREAT to spend every day with my girls (I really missed them when I worked and suffered from serious 'mommy guilt')...but that being said, I'd still rather be working. And using my writing/editing skills for something other than writing witty status updates on Facebook and Twitter.

- My hair is graying so quickly lately. I blame the stress in my life. I used to be able to go 8 weeks between color appointment....now I'm thinking 6 weeks might be the tops. Grr. Getting old sucks too. ;)

- Filing for unemployment was unbelievably irritating. For anyone out there who works for a university and then happens to lose that job...be prepared to jump through many hoops to prove you aren't a faculty member who is just "off" for the summer or a student employee trying to milk the system. But as an added bonus, I'm happy to report that the federal government is paying me an extra $25 a week - thank you Prez Obama.

- The weather so far this summer has been for crap. Where is the sun? And the heat? Where is summer?

- I need a vacation. I'm hoping our weekend trip to Cedar Point (with my parents, sister and her family) is going to feel like a mini-vacay.

I'm sure there's more random crap floating around in my noggin...but the 2 year old is chatting at me right now and that makes it rather difficult to concentrate on other things.....

Snow and Chinese food...it must be Tuesday

What's with that post title, you ask?

Well, today is "Chinese Tuesday" at work -- you know, because it's Tuesday we order Chinese food for lunch. And...the snow part? Last year (yes, 2008)..it snowed/iced/sleeted damn near EVERY Tuesday from January through March.

And, today is Tuesday...so guess what? It is SNOWING. Of course.

I am so over winter already. Is it April yet?

And now, for the 5 that I am grateful for today:

1. My health
2. My coworker who brings me coffee and yummy muffins
3. New calendars
4. My ever-growing "to do" list -- it means I'm busy and I have a job to do!
5. Emma's new words: "bye-bye" -- said in her cute baby voice every morning when she leaves for daycare w/ her daddy and sister.

No news is good news, right?

Yep. That's right. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. NOTHING.

That's how exciting things have been around here lately...I have nothing blog worthy going on.

It's rainy today. Who cares. Boring.

I've seen 'Twilight' twice. And would like to go for a third time. I think it's an addiction. I'm also re-reading the series.

I'm not done with my Christmas shopping. Not too concerned about that however. It will get done.

Did I mention it's pouring rain today? At least it's not snow, right?

That's it. That's all I have.

Perhaps I will find some blogging inspiration this week. Maybe.

Pick Beef Palin

See that blog post title? Yeah, that would be my name if (shudder) Sarah Palin was my mom.

Want to check out your Palin baby name?

Go here.

Happy baby naming!

Some random crap

I'm sad that the Olympics are over.

As much as I mocked the synchronized diving (especially the MEN'S synchronized diving) and the "rhythmic gymnastics" (c'mon, running around with a ribbon is a SPORT???)...it is always sad to watch the closing ceremonies, knowing that it's going to be another 2 years before we can have that much fun again.

Granted the next Games are the Winter 2010 Olympics...but I can handle that. Figure skating (YEAH that IS a sport), skiing, luge...these are fun to watch - until they come up with something like "synchronized luge" -- that might be going too far. And bonus: the 2010 opening ceremonies are on my birthday that year.

I just saw that tickets for the 2010 games go on sale in October and you can get tickets for as low as $25. Holy crap. I'd go to Vancouver for that. Who cares what sport I'd be watching. I'd be at the Olympics.

I'm sick and tired of this election. In my opinion, Nov. 4th can't get here quick enough.

I'm tired of the smear tactics and stupid commericals. Just once I want to hear a real debate about REAL ISSUES -- like, WHO IS GOING TO FIX THE GASOLINE PRICES AND THE HOUSING CRISIS AND THE HEALTH CARE CRISIS?

I could give shit about all the other stuff.

Although I have to say my current favorite ad is McCain's "when you're a celebrity you don't have to worry about family budgets"....because I'm guessing when you OWN 10 HOUSES you also don't have to worry about family budgets. Whatever. That whole "he's a celebrity and I'm just some random old guy" routine is so worn out. Move on.

Anymore when I see ANY political ad all I hear is "blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah."

As I said in the title, this is a post about random things. I had a long day today...so my mind is not as sharp as it could be.

And now since there's nothing on but the convention and whatever is on my Tivo (Mad Men how I love thee!)...I suppose I should go plant myself in front of the TV and choose between CNN, MSNBC or Tivo. I have a feeling that Don Draper and Co. might win tonight!
