OK, well...that's not really true. I'm not annoyed because it's Thursday. I'm annoyed because it seems that this week has been full of stupid things. And stupid people. Sometimes in combination - stupid people doing or saying stupid things. I'm only going to list 2 things that are really annoying me today. There are others, but I'll keep my complaining to a minimum. :)
Annoyance #1: The reporters covering the fires in California. I have lost count of the number of times this has come out of a "reporter's" mouth: "What do you wish you could have taken from your house?" [Please note: this is being routinely asked of people whose homes have just BURNED TO THE GROUND.].
What kind of insensitive, brainless MORON asks that question? I just want to see one of these victims look at the reporter asking that and say "You're kidding me right? I wish that I didn't have to take anything out of my house because I really wish THAT IT HAD NOT BURNED DOWN. You stupid, heartless ass." Seriously. Come up with a better, less insensitive question.
Stupid people.
Annoyance #2: Bill Maher. He had this to say about women and crying [after the much criticized Ellen "Iggy Gate" last week]: "At this moment when the entire nation is saying 'Hmm, can we have a woman president? Maybe they're too emotional,' I don't think this is helping," Maher said on his talk show. "If I was a woman," he added, "I would be embarrassed right now. I would be embarrassed for all womankind."
WHAT? Is he serious? Now it's BAD for a woman to cry? The article says it all: We're damned if we do and damned if we don't.
Personally, I had no problem with Ellen crying on her show about the dog. She was obviously upset and wanted to share it with her viewers. Oprah has cried on her show. No one criticizes her.
I am offended by Bill Maher. Stupid man doing/saying stupid things.
OK..I'm done now. Whew. I feel better. Thanks. :)
Ridiculous on both things and I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteThose reporters ARE being very insensitive. You don't ask that...have a little tact people.
Also, the crying thing - stupid. It is bad enough women already have to deal with things men don't have to in our society but then to say stuff like this is horrible. How come when a women crys it is a sign of weakness. The first thing the ignorent men (not all, just the ignorant ones) say is "she must be PMSing" or "women are just so emotional they can't handle things." BULL! And why should we be embarrassed??? Because women actually CARE! I will NEVER be embarrassed b/c someone cares so much for something and is so passionate about something that they show their emotions (man or women). If anything we should be proud as women that we actually feel.
I am glad you said something b/c I wanted to write something but it annoyed me WAY too much.
Side note (sorry to vent, but reading this got me going! haha): I am also VERY angry about Bush's visit to California. UGH! Did you read the press release and what he said? I may put the whole thing on my blog!
I missed the press release, but if it came from the prez, I'm quite certain it was incredibly stupid and insensitive.
