Barack Obama was just elected President.
Amazing.
Historical.
The crowds are cheering on every station.
I am crying tears of joy and celebration as I type this.

You Are a Liberal Lady |

Obama for president
before we made it to the security check-in.
Olivia's 'Future President' shirt received many compliments.
He unveiled his new economic plan.
The best part of the day?
Sharing it with my kids.
Olivia was so excited about it.
"We need to watch Action News tonight, mama."
That's a direct quote from Olivia at dinner tonight.
A budding journalist perhaps?

Wow
At one point today the stock market dipped more than 800 points - the biggest one day drop ever -- beating last Monday's implosion. Right now, moments after the final bell, the Dow was at 10,015. As I type this, it has gone back down to 9962.03. So, essentially the Dow has closed below 10,000 for the first time in four years.
And so...the candidates are talking about the economy, right?
Oh surely you jest.
No, they're all throwing crap against the wall hoping some of it sticks.
Palin has been talking about Bill Ayers and spewing lies about how Obama is "palling around" with "terrorists" because according to Sarah, Obama and Ayers are friends. Yeah, she might want to hire some fact checkers.
Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground and was a radical during the Vietnam War. Obama...yeah, he was 9 (10 and 11) years old when Ayers and his cohorts participated in some antiwar bombings during the early 1970s. Sarah would have you believe that Obama was hanging out with Ayers and his friends. Please. How stupid does she think we are?
Yes, Obama and Ayers live in the same neighborhood in Chicago. They served together on a board or two. But are they friends? No. They aren't. And Obama is not a terrorist. Nor does he support terrorists - homegrown or foreign. To suggest otherwise is stupid. Stupid with a capital S.
And then my candidate decides to post a video about the Keating Five. Great. McCain was listed as one of the Keating Five. I get it. What else is there to say about that? Why not talk about the economy?
Oh and then this afternoon McCain calls Obama the "angry" candidate? What? I'm sorry I must have misunderstood that one. I think McCain forgot to drink his Metamucil today....he seems much angrier than anyone else. The best part of today's speech by McCain was this quote: "I don’t need lessons about telling the truth to American people," McCain will say according to prepared text sent out by his campaign. "And were I ever to need any improvement in that regard, I probably wouldn’t seek advice from a Chicago politician."
Wow. It appears that McCain has just slammed all politicians from Chicago. That's impressive. And Obama is the angry one?
This is McCain's 'plan' is right now: The new language is part of the McCain campaign's effort to move away from the country's economic crisis as the primary narrative on the campaign trail, aides told CNN's Dana Bash earlier Monday. McCain, the aides say, will try to reframe the economic issue into an overall theme that Obama is still a virtual unknown, and is not the right person to steer the country through its current financial turmoil. See CNN.com.
Yes, please, let's move away from the economy -- the ONE thing that everyone is worrying about -- and let's focus on a bunch of crap-filled zingers and angry one-liners.
This has turned absurd...all of it. Enough with the character attacks, please talk about something that is relevant.
Right now that is THE ECONOMY. In case the candidates haven't noticed, the economy is still in the toilet and will likely remain there for some time. So enough with the bullshit. Start talking plans.
I know I said I was going to not post much about the election, but I'm pissed off. And I'm venting.

Politics, schmolitics
As much as I enjoy politics, I am getting tired of this whole presidential race to the finish line.
Everyone is so testy and grumpy about it.
And yes, I do mean E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E.
The pundits are tired, the bloggers are tired, the candidates are tired. You can just see it in the eyes of the CNN/MSNBC/FOX talking heads. They don't want to listen to any more drivel about what candidate is better, who is smarter, who lives closer to Russia. No. They want to just start slapping people. And rightfully so, I say.
Me? I'm just irked. Everyone is becoming irksome to me. And I hate to say that, but it's true. I cannot stomach talking politics anymore, except maybe to my dad & mom and maybe one or two others. That's it.
And so, I'm going to have my say here and be done with it for a while. Go ahead and leave a comment (or don't) if you feel so inclined. Unless something really inspires me during the next few weeks I don't see myself blogging about politics for a while. It's not enjoyable anymore.
I've heard and seen so much stupid shit lately that I cannot stomach the stupidity anymore. A perfect example: the husband of an acquaintance says he WILL NOT vote for Obama because he can't vote for anyone whose middle name is Hussien. Seriously? That's why you're voting for McCain? Not because you agree with McCain's politics, but because you don't like the other guy's middle name? You must be joking. Holy crap.
I'm irked. I'm irritated. I'm afraid that people are going to vote for stupid reasons rather than focusing on the real issues at hand.
I want affordable, non-taxed health care. I want women to maintain the right to choose, I want the Constitution to be left alone, I want new justices on the Supreme Court, I want tax cuts for me because I make less than $250K a year, I want our troops to come home now, I want equal pay because my god it's the 21st century and isn't it time we had that, I want to know that the world is going to be a safer place for my kids than it is now and if that means crossing the border into Pakistan to hunt down and kill the mastermind of 9/11 then so be it, I want new energy solutions, I want to save the polar bears and the environment, I want to know that this $700 billion bailout is really the right solution, I want America to once again be the land of hope and opportunity.
Yeah, I said hope. No, I don't care if you think that's funny or ironic.
Change is here. Change is there. Change was mocked. Now 'change is coming.' Everyone wants to be the candidate of change. Whatever. How about being the president of fixing all the major fuck ups that are plaguing the country? How 'bout that?
Red states. Blue states. Purple states. Swing states. None of those titles matter. What matters is this - The United States. See that word? United. That is what matters after Nov. 4th - that we are all once again UNITED. So vote for whomever you think is the BEST candidate. But vote for good reasons. Don't place the faith of your vote on things such as middle names, lipstick, skin color, proximity to foreign countries, numbers of cars, or baseless Internet lies.

Pick your president!
This was interesting. And fun.
Pick your president!
Here's how it works: You are given 2 comments and you have to chose which one you agree with...and then at the end you see your final tally and what president you chose.
Imagine this: My pick based on the comments I chose was.....Obama.
Hard to believe, right? ha!
Have fun!

What I'm doing tonight
In about 30 minutes I'm headed out to a convention 'watch party.'
Yep, a friend and I are headed to a local union hall to hang out with other democrats and watch the convention.
Honestly, I'm very excited.
I'm going to be watching history tonight -- and even though I'd rather be in Denver watching it LIVE....this is as close as I'll get.
And being with friends is so much better than watching it alone on my couch after the rest of the family has gone to bed. [Yes folks, my darling husband will not stay up and watch it with me].
Oh, and I have to add this tonight: Obama/Biden '08

Oh. My. Gosh.
He just did it. Barack Obama got the nomination with 2,118 delegates.
I am so happy I could cry. Tears of JOY of course.

Obama 2008.

Breaking news from CNN.com:
AP: Officials say Hillary Clinton will acknowledge tonight that Barack Obama has the delegates for the Democratic presidential nomination.
UPDATE:
Another story from CNN.com:
Hillary Clinton not prepared to admit Barack Obama has beaten her in race for Democratic nomination, her campaign chairman told CNN.
Ok seriously folks: pull your heads out of your asses and just get the story right. Is she or isn't she??? Geez Oh Petes.

I like Obama. You got a problem with that?
All right, so the election for president isn't for another six months -- but this damn primary has been going for what seems like YEARS.
And even before "all the cool kids" started doing it, I've been backing Barack Obama. Go ahead, check out my blog history. December 12, 2006 -- that was my first ever post about the man who could very well be our next president. See here.
There's been a bit of a tussle over on Athena Bee's about the candidates for president. And it's the same argument I see over and over on other blogs. When someone says they are supporting Barack Obama, all of a sudden everyone starts quizzing us on "why? Why? WHY??????"
Supporting Hillary? "Oh, OK...that's cool." John McCain? "Oh good." Ron Paul supporter? "Hmmm, well, OK." No one ever asks for an explanation from those people.
But once those words "I'm voting for Obama" leave one's fingers and end up as words on the page....oh my freakin' god...it's all over.
Quite frankly, I think that a person's decision to support or not support a candidate is a personal decsion. I shouldn't have to explain my choice to anyone. I'm not saying "YOU MUST VOTE FOR OBAMA." I'm not your keeper. Do what you will. Vote for whomever you want.
However, just for shits and giggles...I will post my personal reasons why I have wanted to vote for Obama since 2006.
1. He is the best candidate.
2. He's not "old school" politics.
3. He's not married to a former president (who, I will add, I did vote for. Twice - but that doesn't mean I want Slick Willy back in the White House. Ever.)
4. He has the best platform out of the 2 Dems - even though Hil's platform is similar.
5. He believes in the same ideals I do: ending the war in Iraq, lowering taxes, helping out middle income families with the cost of daycare and childcare, continuing the fight for equal rights for women (equal pay, fighting sex discrimination), affordable healthcare for everyone.
6. He's not George W. Bush (sorry, I had to do that)
7. He hasn't been brainwashed by D.C.
8. He's damn smart (I bet he can pronounce nuclear the right way!)
9. Read his book - The Audacity of Hope - you will see what is so amazing about him (yes, his book is one reason I think he should be president. It is full of so many wonderful ideals and beliefs...you will understand when you read it)
10. He wants and believes in CHANGE.
Yeah, I said it. I want him to be prez because he believes in CHANGE. That is huge for me. Washington must change the way it does things if we are to grow and prosper as a country. Do you see the price of gas? Groceries? Soon there won't be a middle class anymore. I truly believe that Obama can work for the changes that are NECESSARY to make us the great country that we MUST be in order to survive and prosper.
Go ahead, be cynical and laugh at the whole "change" thing. But any fool can see that the way things are being done right now is NOT working. So yeah, give me change. Give me a candidate who isn't afraid to stir thing up a bit.
Oh, and for all you naysayers who come back with "well, what experience does he have?"....let's consider this issue:
- George W. Bush - gov of texas, dad was prez
- Hillary - senator, husband was prez
- McCain - senator, POW
- JFK - senator (and one of the greatest leaders of all time)
Is Obama perfect? No. But in my mind, he is the best candidate we have. You don't have to agree with me. You don't even have to like me. Quite frankly, I don't care. That's the beauty of this country ... you can vote for whomever you want for whatever reason you want.
Just vote. Don't sit back and bitch and whine about things if you aren't going to get out there and VOTE.

Obama ROCKS!
Yep, he won North Carolina...and had 49% of the vote in Indiana....and he only needs about 200 more delegates to have enough to get the nomination.
And Hillary? Well, the NY Post had a great headline today: TOAST!
Yes, I think she's toast. She really needs to drop out. Like yesterday. Tim Russert said the same thing last night. She has no hope.
And quite frankly, I think the longer she stays in a race that she can't win, the more damage she is doing to the Democratic party.
OK, that is my 2 cents.

I did it!
I voted today. And it felt wonderful to vote in the primary. I declared my party of choice, received that ballot and filled in the circle for Barack Obama.
That was so cool.
The line to vote (yes, there was a line) -- it was practically out the door of One Government Center. Olivia and I stood in that line for almost 45 minutes in order to vote.
And, there are so many people who want to vote early -- the BOE is open tomorrow too. Yeah, on a Sunday. From 8:30 to 1.
Wow. That is amazing.
So, you can vote early tomorrow. Or you can vote on Tuesday.
No matter who you're voting for...get out there and do it!
Happy voting! :)

Vote early (and vote often!)
OK, so we can't really vote often...that would be illegal. But you get my drift.
I am SO EXCITED to vote this year! This will be the first time in my voting "history" that I will be voting in the primaries. I've always voted in the presidential elections - since age 18 - and I've voted in the non-presidential years too, but never in a primary. I just never felt the "urge" to do it.
Until now.
Tomorrow, I'm voting in Ohio's primary. [Yes, I do realize that the primary isn't until Tuesday....but the Board of Elections is open for early voting].
Does it have a lot to do with the candidate for whom I'm voting? Yes it does. I voted for Bill Clinton, twice. I voted for Al Gore. I voted for John Kerry. But I never felt as passionate about those votes as I do about this one. I think before I was voting for the candidate because (1) they were Democrats and (2) they weren't George Bush (1st or 2nd).
This time - I'm voting for Obama because I believe in what he has to say about what this country needs to do to change and grow. I believe he is the right candidate for my generation. And, I believe in his platform.
And so, I'm going downtown tomorrow to the BOE and casting my very first presidential primary vote.
Regardless of who you are voting for, get out there and do it - today, tomorrow, or next Tuesday.

Oh how I wish....
Barack Obama is coming to town on Sunday.
My husband tried to get me "preferred seating" tickets today. He was not successful.
I am going to try and get in...but we're going to Findlay on Sunday morning and might not be back until 2 p.m. -- and the doors open at 2:15!!!!!
They are expecting 9,000 people at Savage Hall at UT. Oh how I wish I could be one of them. I'm going to try to get in the door. But I'm not sure it will happen.
I will be very bummed if I can't get in.

A high point
So, as of this morning, the radio station I listen to has been running ads for Barack Obama. It's so cool.
About every 30 minutes or so I hear his voice coming from my radio.
It's enough to make me smile.
Every. Single. Time.
Have I mentioned how much I LIKE (no, really really LIKE) this man?
