Tis the season to be toy shopping, and so last night we headed out to Toys-r-Us because they were having a sale...and two things we wanted to buy were on sale.
So, Olivia and I head into the store, which is packed with people buying many, many toys.
And, of course, they have 3 checkout lines open. Yes, there are about 10 or 12 lines total...but during the busiest time of the year, let's only open 3. That's a great plan.
I chose what I thought was a fast line. There was only ONE person in front of me and she was having her items rung up.
Everything was running smoothly (you could almost hear that happy toy-store music from the Visa commerical) when suddenly BAM! She pulls out her CHECKBOOK and proceeds to write a check for $175.
Just like in the commercial -- everything came to a screeching halt. [I could almost hear the toys crashing to the ground behind me!] The clerk had to call her manager over to OK the check. The customer had to finish writing, then signing her check. All told, it took at least 5 to 6 minutes. These were minutes I'll never get back. I was just a bit irritated with little Ms. I-just-have-to-write-a-check-rather-than-using-my-debit-card.
Ugh.
Finally it was my turn. The clerk scans my few items, I swipe my debit Mastercard and whoosh.....I'm outta there. Two, two-and-a-half minutes tops.
Never again will I mock those checkcard commercials. Please, be kind to others....don't write checks, use your checkcard/debit card.
Happy holiday shopping.
Well Amen to that! I swear, I make it to my car BEFORE the person in front of me writing the check. In this day and age... really?! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI really cannot believe people still write checks. You're right, it's painful being behind those people. But you know, I really, for the life of me - can't remember being behind someone with a checkbook in hand.
ReplyDeleteCRAZY.
