If you have ever wondered what prehistoric women were like on their "hunting and gathering" trips...you need to head out to a craft show.
Seriously.
I'm a big fan of craft shows - my mom and I go to at least a couple every year. I don't often buy a lot - usually just Christmas ornaments - but I like to look at all the creative things people make.
Today we went to the annual holiday craft show at Lourdes College. We arrived 15 minutes before it "officially" opened and a crowd was already gathering. A crowd of very crazy women, I might add.
A staff member had to actually keep telling the women in front to "please wait, the show is not open yet." It was truly an overload of estrogen in a very small space. And we were lined up as if we were going to run a marathon.
When the security guards finally gave the OK, the women in front literally RAN to the first booth - the cookie dough ornament booth. Now, these are adorable ornaments and I wanted one that said "Baby's 1st Christmas"....but there is really no need to RUN and push people out of the way to get one.
After quickly moving my 6 1/2 month pregnant sister to safety, I made my way to the table and asked the crazy woman next to me to find me a baby ornament, a santa ornament and a couple others. In about 2 minutes I was done and in line. [And I didn't have to push anyone or run or do anything else crazy. I simply stood there and asked someone else to do it!]
The crazy women from the front of the line? Yeah, they had picked up small baskets and filled them to the brim with ornaments and then SHOVED their way to some chairs and proceeded to sort through their ornaments, deciding what to buy and what to put back.
As I said, hunters and gatherers.
I have never witnessed such a spectacle of insanity. And hope I don't have to again anytime soon.
(We did make it back to that booth later in the morning and the artist was very apologetic about the crazy women. She said that she had never seen that happen before and would never be putting the baskets out again. I think the whole thing freaked her out too.)
