They should rename it the tarnished Globes

OK, I am going to admit something: I am an award show junkie. Specifically, the Golden Globes and the Oscars. I L.O.V.E. watching the red carpet pre-shows and seeing who looks good and who has the ugliest dress. I love the ceremonies and the suspense of it. [Although, I cannot stand the 4 hours that it takes to give out Oscars. Seriously, it could be done in two].

And so, it was with little excitement that I watched tonight's "press conference" format of the Golden Globes. No red carpet. No stupid questions asked by Ryan Seacrest. No "Who are you wearing?" No fashion faux pas. No reason to pop the popcorn.

The NBC version with Billy Bush [really, WHY does he have a job?] was RIDICULOUS. It was so bad. I figured they'd just show the actual press conference. Oh no...it was all time-delayed and Billy boy was announcing the winners and then giving his view. UGH.

I just happened to surf over to E! and found that they were actually showing the press conference. And, it was equallly as bad. Ryan's E! cohost, Guiliana, was gushing about how "never in a million years" did she think she'd be on the Globes, blah blah blah. Yeah, we get it. Move on.

But it just was NOT the same. Johnny Depp won! And we didn't get to see him accept his Globe. [Pushing Daisys lost. Boo!] Atonement won...now I want to see that movie even MORE.

What I really wanted to see was a room full of stars and beautiful dresses and silly acceptance speeches (oh, and did I mention Johnny Depp?).

Hollywood needs to get their shit together and end this strike. I need my Oscars this year.

  1. I'm with you 100%. I love award shows too! For all of the reasons you mentioned. I also like to guess who I think is going to win, that's fun for me.

I only caught 5 minutes of the "readings" last night and I had to laugh at your Billy Bush comment. He has the worst hair in all of television! Whatever is going on in the back of his head needs to stop, it was so bad. He should be embarrassed.

I hear you, I need the Oscars. I would feel empty without them.

  2. Oh my gosh. His hair was awful!!! I said the same thing to my husband. It looked like a dead animal was attached to the back of his head.

  3. I miss the Golden Globes as well! And though I was also VERY excited to hear Johnny Depp won, it sucked to not see him at the show :(

I didn't even watch. It isn't the same. I just checked the list this morning.

I am done with this strike. For more reasons than the award shows. There are so many people who actually NEED to work that are out of a job. The crews and such. Both sides need to get their act together and work something out.

P.S. I don't know if you watch the Daily Show but my favorite Jon Stewart quote about the strike was... (not an exact quote as it is from memory)

"The last time all these shows were off the air was for a week after 9/11. So if I do the math, this means that this writers strike is 9 times WORSE than 9/11."

haha - The fact that this has gone on as long as it has is ridiculous.

  6. I totally agree with you.

I didn't even really know that I could "watch" the globes. Looks like I didn't miss anything...

Seriously, by the time the Oscars roll around this crap had better be dealt with.

  7. Yay Johnny Depp!

PS I second the motion - WRITERS AND HOLLYWOOD - GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!

I would write for a fraction of the price. We should all send in our blogs as samples of what we can do and take over. Then we would run the world.....muh-ha-ha-ha-ha
