I just came across this story on the 'net...."Georgia mother wants ban on Harry Potter books." (To read story: go HERE).
Here's my problem with parents such as this: they have too much freakin' time on their hands. I mean, c'mon...ban Harry Potter books from the library because, as the mom in this story says, "the popular fiction books are an "evil" attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion."
Um, yeah....right. I'm positive that's what J.K. Rowling had in mind when she started writing these books. Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!
I've read all the Harry Potter books. And yes, they are about young wizards...but people...it's all fantasy. There is no such school as Hogwarts. Harry and company are fictional characters.
I loved the response from the library -- if they were to ban all books that contained witches, they'd have to ban books ranging from "Macbeth" to "Cinderella." So there.
Speaking of banning books.....check out Michael Miller's column this week at the Toledo Free Press. It's great.
Anyone who supports banning books is just plain nuts. And that's all I have to say about that. For now.
Yeah, it's super-bad when a wave of kids (and adults) start feasting on books.
ReplyDeleteSo bad.
Ugh.
Damn it, I wish they'd all play more video games.
