I am currently obsessed with the Twilight book series. There I admitted it.
I bought book 1 (Twilight) as a spur-of-the-moment purchase about 3 weeks ago at Target. I had read things here and there about the books and I knew the movie was coming out soon...and so I figured, what the hell. I'll give it a shot.
I. Loved. It.
A lot.
I devoured that first book in about 2 days. Then I bought book 2 (New Moon). Again, it was finished in about 2 days. I HAD to buy book 3 (Eclipse) as soon as possible. Then I was done with that. It was as if the pages of these books had some crazy drug on the pages...I could NOT get enough.
I bought book 4 (Breaking Dawn) on Sunday. So far, I'm 300 pages into it. And I'm loving every second of it.
I have the same feelings for these books as I do with Harry Potter -- I love them. I love them a lot. I get totally lost in the pages and lose track of time. I feel connected to the characters. And, I want to read them all again. [For the record, I tend to do this with many books: The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, The Mayfair Witch stories by Anne Rice, Gone with the Wind -- I've read all of them many, many times].
I guess I'm just a big book nerd. Sue me.
And last night, my sister and I went to see Twilight. It was a really good movie. I've heard some negative things about it -- but really, it was good. It followed the book for the most part (granted, there were some things left out, but that happens with every book-to-movie conversion). And Robert Pattinson as Edward? Perfect casting. Just perfect.
As I walked out of the theater I felt the same urge that I feel after the Harry Potter movies - I want more NOW! I want the next movie NOW! Sadly, I'll have to wait for New Moon just as I have to wait for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. But I guess that just makes the movies THAT much better when they do finally open.
I read the first book. I enjoyed it, but I feel as though I could have cut about 100 pages from the middle. It seemed as though I was reading the same scene over and over again. I get that they were building story, and luckily it redeemed itself in the end.
ReplyDeleteI will read the others, but I just think there could have been a better job of editing.
I love Harry Potter. Couldn't get through Lord O the Rings. Will I like this?
ReplyDeletenadja...i do think you'd like the books!
ReplyDeleteI just devoured--no pun intended--Twilight and New Moon over the weekend--took 4 days to read both. (I love having an independant 7 year old who will let me read) The 2nd book could have been shorter--but whatever.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED them both--and now I want to see the movie. I have had the books on my shelf since the summer and just never got around to them--them movie hype built up and I just had to read them.
I have to go get the other 2 books now....but Breaking Dawn is not in paperback yet--and having 3 soft covers in a set and then a hardback might mess with my sense of proportion on the bookshelf. I'm nuts...
lurker girl: yes, you must see the movie! i have a feeling that i'll be seeing it a 2nd time...just to absorb it all again. and the soundtrack? it's great.
ReplyDeletei know, i have 2 soft covers (the first 2 books) and then 2 hard covers (the last 2 books). now my bookcase is all in a state of disarray! haha.
My friend at work just read this, in like one day. And although I am not 16, I really want to read this!
ReplyDeletefreckleface...i finished the last book in the series on friday and am now re-reading the entire series. it's my own personal "escape" i guess. :)
