Earlier this year, McDonald's introduced the new and improved Happy Meal - complete with "kid size" french fries and apple slices. My kids love the new choices ... Emma eats her apples and fries first every time.
In continuing with their improved nutrition choices initiative, McDonald's has announced a new contest - "McDonald's Happy Meal Chefs" contest. The contest runs through April 18, and gives kids the opportunity to help McDonald's executive chef Dan Coudreaut create and test new, nutrition-minded Happy Meal choices.
Oh, and did I mention...10 kids will win a trip to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London to participate in McDonald's Global Champions of Play program! Two grand prize winners will become honorary "Happy Meal Chefs"!

• Judging: Ten finalists will be selected in-part by a panel of expert judges specializing in food, nutrition and physical activity including: U.S. Olympic Swimming Champion Dara Torres; renowned child nutrition expert Keith Ayoob, EdD, RD, FADA; leading cross-cultural nutrition expert Sylvia MelĂ©ndez-Klinger, MS, RD, LD; and Head Coach of Women’s Track & Field, University of Texas, Coach Beverly ‘Bev’ Kearney.
• Prize: Ten kids will win a trip to the London 2012 Olympic Games to participate in McDonald’s Global Champions of Play program where they will join kids from around the world to celebrate balanced eating and fun play. Two Grand Prize Winners will become honorary “Happy Meal Chefs.”
The winning Happy Meal Chefs will experience a one-of-a-kind apprenticeship with Chef Dan in the creation and testing of new, nutrition-minded Happy Meal choices.
