So um....as of today, 2012 isn't much different than 2011.
Cynical?
Maybe.
But, as I told a friend today ... yesterday really just felt like a Sunday. Granted it was a Sunday when we stuffed ourselves with prime rib and scalloped oysters at my parents' house ... but other than that? Just a Sunday.
Not sure what I was expecting, quite frankly.
Maybe I was hoping for some drastic-in-your-face-this-is-a-new-year kind of thing.
Nope.
Didn't happen.
Guess I need to add "be more patient" to my list of "resolutions."

It's a new year!
Yes.
OK.
I'm sure you're well aware that it is now day two of 2011.
And, I actually wrote the CORRECT year on the checks I had to write today.
I consider that a victory for me.
It's the small things, you know?
So...new year, new resolutions?
Nope.
I don't make resolutions.
Why?
Because I never keep them.
(Really who does?)
I've made resolutions in the past - you know, "I'm going to lose 40 pounds, and get in shape, and balance my checkbook every day, and only drink Starbucks on days that end in 'y' ".
Things like that.
I never, ever, ever keep those resolutions.
Well, except for the drinking Starbucks thing - I CAN do that.
Sure, I could set "goals" or "make plans" ... but really, I know what I need to do.
I just need to DO THEM.
Today, I cleaned out the home office.
I found nearly a year's worth of pay stubs and bank statements piled up on the floor in the corner.
OK. I didn't really "find" them...more like, I FINALLY put them away in the file cabinet in their proper folders marked "pay stubs 2010" and "bank statements 2010".
(And at this point you're probably thinking my home office looks like something from "Hoarders" ...but really it doesn't. It was one small pile in the corner, out of sight. You know..out of sight, out of mind.)
See?
I got 2010 all organized.
On the second day of 2011.
What I need to do is put things away in their proper folders as we receive them.
And after I balance the checkbook, which needs to be done on a regular basis and not just at the last minute every Sunday night as I'm writing the very painful $266 weekly check to daycare.
I also put all the laundry away.
Today.
The same day that it was finished.
You know, instead of just digging through the basket and then "rewashing" the unfolded laundry because I don't want to be bothered with putting it away.
I am learning!
It's not that I'm lazy or messy or any of those things.
Actually I'm sort of obsessed with keeping the house clean.
it just seems like certain things always get put last on my list - like laundry, which I detest.
But....
I have felt very unorganized since mid-2010.
I need to be organized..for my own sanity and peace of mind.
And yes, I need to lose weight.
I'll work on that.
After the two birthday parties next weekend and Emma's party in three weeks.
(heehee)
So, in 2011....I will get MORE organized, drop some lbs, put the laundry away, file things on time, and blog more.
We'll see how this all worked out in about 363 days.
Happy 2011!

Out with the old, in with the new (year)
Happy new year!
So, 2010 is just around the corner.
It seems like just yesterday we were all waiting for Y2K to set in and send us all back to the dark ages.....
Oh, who am I kidding.
It's been a really LONG 10 years.
And I'm ready to start the new decade.
[And here's a kicker - I am ending the decade the same way I started it -- unemployed! Don't you just love it?]
Everyone has been doing these big retrospectives, looking back at the good and the bad from the last 10 years, so I figured I'd join in the fun.
And so, in no particular order (and leaving out many things, I'm sure):
In the last 10 years I have .... met and married the love of my life, given birth to two beautiful daughters, worked at three different jobs (being fired from two due to the fact that I was pregnant, and losing one to the economy), taken and failed the Ohio bar exam seven times, been rejected for the Disney Mom's Panel three times, visited Los Angeles once and New York City three times, driven to Florida once, flown to Florida four times, visited Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel on my honeymoon, converted to Catholicism, started three blogs, created a Facebook page, deleted a MySpace page, started a Twitter account, become addicted to both Facebook and Twitter, bought my first Blackberry, read the Twilight series nearly 10 times [in just one year!], had zero car accidents, gone on more job interviews than I care to recall, made some incredible friends, been a bridesmaid in two weddings, moved four times (out of an apartment, into and out of a duplex, into Kevin's house, and then into our current house), gone to my first NFL game (Sept. 2001) my first MLB game (July 2001) and my first OSU game (Sept. 2008), adopted two cats and two dogs, watched the unthinkable happen on 9/11, not taken nearly enough vacations, had three foot surgeries, broken my foot once, voted Democrat in every election, gained some weight and stretch marks - but all for a good reason, owned three different cars, plucked more gray hairs than my stylist knows about, been a brunette, blonde, and redhead, laughed more than I've cried, watched my oldest daughter start kindergarten, and marveled at how quickly times goes by when you aren't looking....
I started the decade as an almost-27-year-old (practically) single woman living alone in a small apartment, looking for a job.
I am ending the decade as a nearly 37-year-old married mother of two, living in her dream house with her husband, daughters, two dogs and one cat, and I am once again looking for a job.
Time flies when you're having fun.
[Oh and for those of you wondering what my resolutions are, I need to disclose that I am not making resolutions this year. Instead I am setting goals.
And so, my goals for 2010 are: losing weight (I am not putting an exact number here, because I don't want to fail...I just want to lose weight), exercising more, finding a great job (career) that makes me happy, blogging more, and becoming a member of the 2011 Disney Mom's Panel.]
Wishing you all a very Happy 2010!
May all your dreams come true.
